The Saab GlobalEye, originally known as the SRSS, was developed for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Swing Role Surveillance System (SRSS) aircraft requirement. The GlobalEye is intended to enhance the airborne surveillance capabilities through a new version of the Erieye radar system (Erieye ER). The Bombardier Global 6000 jet is the basis of the new platform. The new surveillance system will be able to simultaneously detect and track multiple targets in the air, on land and at sea. The UAE ordered the SRSS system under a $1.27 billion contract on November 9, 2015, at the Dubai airshow. Saab rebranded the new product as the GlobalEye multi-role airborne surveillance system in February 2016.
Besides the Erieye ER radar, the GlobalEye can integrate a comprehensive suite of sensors including signals intelligence and advanced self-protection equipment with a new Command, Control and Communications (C3) system. The GlobalEye can stay airborne for up to 11 hours.
